Eradicating invasive fallow deer from Sidney Island to facilitate forest restoration

Parks Canada is funding a collaborative project for the purpose of facilitating long-term recovery of the forest ecosystem on Sidney Island. Currently, the ecosystem is in a severely-degraded state as a result of decades of over-browsing by invasive fallow deer. A series of restoration and conservation activities, including the eradication of invasive fallow deer from Sidney Island, have been recommended. Parks Canada and other project partners and reviewing these recommendations for potential approval.

This Detailed Impact Assessment process focuses on the proposed eradication of invasive fallow deer. This public engagement period has been preceded by ~1 year of collaborative planning and in-depth engagement with partnering communities and organisations.
