Wharf C Replacement Project, Lunenburg, NS

Develop Nova Scotia is improving coastal infrastructure at the Lunenburg waterfront. The project includes a new industrial wharf at Wharf C. The project scope within the Transport Canada waterlot involves construction of a section of new wharf at Wharf C containing 24 timber piles. The new wharf section at Wharf C is approximately 93 m2.

In order to mitigate risks during construction environmental controls will be in keeping with all standard are procedures set out by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as well as provincial and federal standards and permits. These measures will include silt fencing, fueling procedures for all on-site equipment, silt/debris booms, and oil booms around all active work locations. Spill response kits and trained crews are also planned.

February 26, 2021 - Transport Canada has determined that the proposed Wharf C Replacement Project in Lunenberg, NS is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

•           impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;

•           Indigenous knowledge;

•           community knowledge;

•           comments received from the public; and

•           technically and economically feasible mitigation measures..
