Trans Northern Pipelines Inc. (TNPI) Trent River Crossing Repair

The existing TNPI crossing of the Trent River is currently exposed due to bed erosion and scour over the life of the pipeline. TNPI identified the exposure as part of its preventative inspection program, and identified the need to recover the pipe to meet safety requirements. TNPI inspection records indicate that the pipeline itself currently shows no signs of defects and is in a condition that does not warrant replacement.

TNPI intends to add gravel material and rock on top of the pipeline in two stages (gravel layer on top of the pipe, larger riprap on top of the gravel) to provide sufficient cover to protect the line from further exposure due to erosion and scour and from potential line strikes (such as a boat anchor).

This project will be assessed with a Parks Canada Basic Impact Analysis.
