Public Consultation on Memoranda of Understanding on Substitution under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency invites the public to comment on draft Memoranda of Understanding regarding pipeline and power line projects within the jurisdiction of the National Energy Board (NEB) and nuclear facilities within the jurisdiction of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).

The Memoranda will facilitate substitution of the review processes of the NEB and the CNSC for review panels established under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. The Memoranda describe the conditions under which substitution may be approved.

This initiative is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to reducing duplication and making the environmental assessment process more efficient, without compromising the environment.

Public comments will help inform the finalization of the Memoranda.

The public has until October 20, 2010, to provide comments on the Memoranda of Understanding. Comments, in either official language, are to be sent in writing to:
