Environmental Assessments Commenced Prior to October 2003
Environmental assessments (EA) support sustainable development by helping to eliminate or reduce a project's potential impact on the environment before it begins and ensuring that mitigation measures are applied once the project is initiated. EAs support informed decision making. You can learn more about EA by reviewing the Basics of Environmental Assessment, including what is environmental assessment, why it is important and how you can get involved. You will also learn about when the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 applies to proposed projects.
The projects listed on the pages linked below include comprehensive study and review panel EAs undertaken under the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. Certain EAs that commenced under the former Act are underway while information relating to completed environmental assessments has been archived online for the convenience of users. Environmental assessments commenced prior to the establishment of a Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry Internet Site (CEARIS) in October 2003 are identified in brackets as "Pre-CEARIS".
With the coming into force of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012, a new Registry was established. Information on potential and current environmental assessments of projects proposed July 6, 2012 can be found in the Registry and is not included in the lists below.
