To protect or restore key wetland ecosystems: 4.5 million hectares across North America, and 2 million hectares in Canada by the year 2000, thereby helping to achieve a continental fall flight of at least 100 million ducks. The Plan was updated again in 1998. The 1998 Plan's updated goals seek the protection of 12.2 million acres of wetland ecosystem habitat and the restoration and enhancement of 15.2 million acres. Waterfowl goals remain essentially unchanged.
